New Noise Music Festival: www.newnoisesb.com
It makes me proud when the youth of Santa Barbara step up and get involved in our community. Jeff Theimer, a friend of mine since 1st grade is taking over the Santa Barbara music scene with the New Noise. Rock it Jeff!
When? The inaugural event will take place October 8-10, 2009.
New Noise Santa Barbara is a three-day music and digital media conference that will showcase emerging and established bands, host educational panels on the music industry’s hottest topics, present esteemed experts from all walks of the business, and serve as a place for players big and small to connect and plot the future of sound. New Noise will be equal parts classroom and playground, blending each day’s intelligent discussion and all-important networking with entertainment offered during the evening at venues large and small.
Where?
New Noise occurs annually in the beautiful seaside city of Santa Barbara, which offers the perfect mix of live music venues, interested and active local residents, an allure to out-of-towners, and a visitor-serving infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, etc.) to properly host a festival of this sort. Strategically located 90 miles north of Los Angeles and just a one-hour plane flight from the tech-savvy Bay Area, Santa Barbara is the ideal locale to discuss the convergence of music and digital media technology.

Edward Sharpe &; The Magnetic Zeros:
Alex Ebert could easily double as some kind of indie-rock messiah. Fronting his new band, the 11- or 12-member strong Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Ebert appears onstage shirtless and barefoot, strands of shoulder-length hair tied back in a faux crown as he conducts his smiling, face-painted ensemble like a giddy choir director.
